June Newsletter

Hi everyone! Welcome to the first in what will be a regular series of newsletters to keep you updated on Greenwich Winter Night Shelter. It’s been an extraordinary and challenging year for everyone, but we are looking forward to reopening this winter season.

Our plans for this year

The pandemic has meant that we are no longer able to run the ‘one shelter, seven venues’ model. Therefore, we are currently working closely with the Royal Borough of Greenwich and local churches to find a building where we can set up a static shelter with individual rooms for guests.

Following the success of the day centre pilot in 2019/2020, we are also looking to develop our casework and advice function to support people’s transition into more permanent accommodation. We’re very hopeful that this model will provide more consistency, support and stability for our guests and are looking forward to opening our doors (wherever they may be!) once again.

Introducing our new Development Manager

We’re really pleased to announce that Katy Ridsdill-Smith, who some of you may know from her time as Venue Coordinator at OneSpace, joined GWNS last month as Development Manager and will be running the shelter with the support of our trustees.

How can you get involved?

Once we have secured a building, we will be in touch with information about volunteering, training and more ways for you to get involved – keep an eye on your emails and our social media pages for updates!

In the meantime…

Thank you for all the support you have shown GWNS; we are lucky to have such dedicated volunteers and supporters and are very much looking forward to seeing many of you again!
